Global Compliance Officer (m/f/d)

We are looking for a motivated personality, taking over the role as Global Compliance Officer (m/f/d) at our Hamburg location.

This key position offers you the exciting opportunity to combine global compliance responsibilities with a broad-based general counsel function. In this role, you will establish the organizational framework for ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards at both national and international levels. You will report directly to top management and contribute significantly to the sustainable growth of HELM.

As Global Compliance Officer, you are in charge of the group-wide compliance and governance organization and its strategic development. The focus will be particularly on topics such as anti-corruption, competition and antitrust law, anti-money laundering, and trade compliance.

Your tasks:

• Further development and monitoring of the group-wide compliance management systems.
• Identifying, analyzing, and assessing compliance risks, along with the development and implementation of corresponding policies and processes.
• Responsibility for the group-wide whistleblower system, including the professional handling and follow-up of relevant reports.
• Developing and conducting compliance trainings and awareness initiatives.
• Compliance reporting to the Executive Board and supervisory bodies.
• Close collaboration with functional departments on related topics such as sustainability and HSE to promote a holistic governance approach.

As General Counsel, you will serve as a strategic sparring partner for the Executive Board, senior management and business units. You offer practical, business-oriented legal advice and support key corporate decisions.

Your tasks:

• Provide strategic and pragmatic legal counsel to the Executive Board and all business units, including legal and litigation reporting.
• Support and advise on strategic initiatives, investments, corporate transactions, M&A activities, and joint venture projects.
• Lead the legal oversight of key commercial agreements and drive the continuous enhancement of group-wide contract frameworks and standards.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assist business functions in implementing applicable legal and compliance requirements.
• Advance Legal Operations, Legal Tech solutions, knowledge management, and digital workflows to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
• Contribute to the design and ongoing refinement of a group-wide risk management strategy.
• Serve as Data Protection Officer or provide data protection expertise and support to group companies within the agreed scope of responsibility.

Your Profile:

• You possess of a law degree or a comparable degree in business law (LL.B. or LL.M.), ideally with a focus on compliance.
• You have at least five years of professional experience in a globally operating organization, with a strong focus on Corporate Governance & Compliance as well as legal advisory matters.
• In previous roles, you have gained in-depth knowledge of commercial and business law as well as antitrust and competition law. You are also familiar with areas such as anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, trade compliance and sanctions, as well as internal control systems and risk management.
• In addition, you are experienced in the development and organization of compliance management systems.
• Ideally, you also have knowledge of data protection law and governance. In this context, legal operations, legal tech, and the digitization of legal and compliance-related processes are known to you.
• You build trust with a wide range of stakeholders through your integrity, diplomatic approach, and strong business acumen.
• You foster open and trusting collaboration and can demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills.
• Fluent written and spoken German and English language skills complete your profile.
